Least Cost Routing: What it is & Why You Need it for Your SaaS Communications

Michael Tindall

When your customers are fielding calls and contacting their clients, the last thing you need to worry about is skyrocketing costs. But if your only other option is to slow down calls and make people wait, then you have to take the financial hit.

What if there was another option?

Intelligent call routing (or Intelligent LCR) through Commio™ and our 40+ carrier network can help control costs while you grow, gain visibility into and tools to solve for call quality issues, and give you a comprehensive disaster recovery solution.

What Is Intelligent LCR?

Our Intelligent Call Routing technology – called least cost routing (LCR) – uses machine learning and rate tables to ensure your voice calls take the best and lowest cost route from initiation to destination. Rate tables are based on the last two numbers of the phone number, and they also take into account where the call originates and where the destination number is located. Because it is highly automated, this process takes less than a second, so it doesn’t slow calls down at all.

Nearly all major carriers and some enterprise calling solutions use LCR technology to route calls effectively and efficiently.

How Commio’s Platform Stands Out

Commio LCR routes voice calls through a network of more than 40 carriers, ensuring a wide variety of rate points and quality options as well as redundancy when there are service outages. Calls won’t get bogged down or missed because of carrier issues – they’ll just route around problems.

You can even trace call routes, respond to issues, and choose the carriers you prefer (and those you wish to avoid) easily through the management interface, so you are in complete control and can provide great service, no matter what.

When using other call routing systems, you often must pull a trace file, send it to the service team, and wait (and wait) for a response. Our self-service tools allow real-time tracing so you can be your own telecom service department, saving time and ensuring that you’re always the hero to your customers.

Why Commio LCR Is the Right Choice

Commio™ has been able to help SaaS customers scale up – adding more call capacity as needed – at the lowest price points available. Another benefit is that the Commio network ensures phone calls can be made to rural areas that some legacy phone systems can’t serve.

For example, ServiceTitan was able to provide better service to the contractors and other tradespeople who use their SaaS products to manage their businesses. They handle 20 million minutes of outbound calling every month, so the ability to control costs and deliver calls to all areas is mission-critical. By adding Commio, they also gained the ability to control every aspect of the outbound service and solve any issues as they arise. (Read more about ServiceTitan’s experience in their case study.)

Even more important, Commio™ can be installed within minutes in many systems. It requires just a few lines of code easily added by your developers – no costly service outages or vendor changes while you’re adding our services to your communications stack.
